Forgot where your domain is registered? Follow these steps to find out

Find out where your domain is registered

Forgetting where you registered your domain name may sound dumb, but it’s okay, I’ve been there.

I own many domains registered at different places, so I keep a record of all of them, but if you have no record of where you registered your domain, it’s still very easy to find that out.

All you need to do is look up your domain’s WHOIS (or RDAP) record, and it’ll show you the name of the company where your domain is registered.

Just follow these steps:

  1. Go to any WHOIS lookup tool, such as Whois.com
  2. Enter your domain name and click “Search”
  3. Under “Registrar Information”, see the value next to “Registrar”
  4. That’s it. That’s where your domain is registered

Note: Some companies aren’t accredited registrars, but rather resellers of accredited registrars. If you bought your domain from a reseller, the upstream registrar will be listed in the WHOIS record. In that case, you can see if the upstream registrar has a reseller lookup tool, or you can search your email history for any old messages that can tell you where you bought the domain from.
